This week we practised the art of standing still. Or better put, the art of a stop motion armature standing still. You see, when we stand still, we don’t actually stand still. There are nuances of expression. You might lean one way, then the other. Scratch your face without realising. Twitch. All these little things communicate personality. Enter idle animation. That’s what the topic of this week is. So I decided to focus my effort for this exercise on leaning in different directions, (weight shifts). I executed this in building blocks. One animation that moved from left to right. A second that leaned back and forth. Then a finale combining both leans, to create a circular weight shift. Below you can see how these turned out:
